5,000 rally for “Education Revolution!” PDF Print E-mail

ALABEL, Sarangani (August 6, 2011) – Governor Migs Dominguez, Congressman Manny Pacquiao, board members, mayors and vice mayors led thousands of teachers and education revolutionists Friday (August 5) in the crusade for quality education to fight poverty.

Soldiers with military trucks and armored personnel carriers escorted the 5,000-strong marchers around the Capitol to mark the “Education Revolution!”.

The military trucks were loaded with 20,837 books to be distributed to Grade 1 and 16,621 for the Grade 2 pupils. These will cover the 230 elementary schools province-wide to meet the “1:1 ratio of workbooks,” QUEST program manager Annalie Edday said.

Indigenous people scholars study at MSU extension in Sarangani PDF Print E-mail

MALUNGON, Sarangani (August 4, 2011) – A special tertiary extension program of the provincial government for its indigenous people (IP) is now on its third year of operation and would soon have its own campus.

This was disclosed by officials during the general orientation program of 119 IP scholars attended by provincial, municipal and barangay officials with partners and parents Wednesday (August 3) at Malandag gymnasium.

“Today, I would like to welcome the people behind the fortune given to us freely, the fortune that we should value as we know that it is only through good education that we can become a better person,” said Professor Thelma Pagunsan, dean of the College of Education, Mindanao State University Gensan, in her welcome address.

QUEST reforms Sarangani education PDF Print E-mail

ALABEL, Sarangani (August 4, 2011) – Reforming education is one of the provincial government’s quests in order to eradicate poverty, according to Annalie Edday, program manager of Quality Education for Sarangani Today(QUEST).

After four years of integrating innovation and collaboration in the program, “Sarangani is becoming an education community,” Edday said.

She noted the “clear manifestations of greater community involvement and strengthened accountability over our public school system.”

Education Revolution in Sarangani to knock out poverty PDF Print E-mail

ALABEL, Sarangani (August 3, 2011) - Congressman Manny Pacquiao and Governor Migs Dominguez will lead on Friday (August 5) education revolutionists from the Department of Education (DepEd), Armed Forces of Philippines and education advocates in the battle to end poverty thru quality education.

This is the scenario drawn by schools division superintendent Allan Farnazo.

“If we win the battle for education, then we win the battle against health, and against unemployment,” Farnazo said. He noted that “very low employment opportunity” is rooted from the “very low skills” students were able to acquire.

Farm animals PDF Print E-mail

MAITUM, Sarangani (July 26, 2011) - Mayor Elsie Perrett (right) inspects farm animals intended for the B'lete Farmers Association and Gawan Farmers Association from barangay Bati-an. The two people’s organizations were recipients of the Community Fund Agricultural Development (CFAD) from Mindanao Rural Development Program. The horses will be used as hauling animals to deliver crops from the mountain village to the town proper while the carabaos will be used in tilling the farmlands.
