The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office leads the International Cleanup Day, at the Municipal Fishport, Brgy. Mabay, Maitum, Sarangani Province, on September 19, Saturday.

Presidential Proclamation No. 470 declares the third Sunday of September of each year as the International Coastal Clean-Up (ICC) Day in observance of the Global Coastal Clean-up celebrations.

International Coastal Cleanup is the largest volunteer effort for ocean’s health. People around the world gather on beaches, coasts, rivers, waterways and underwater dive sites to remove trash and record information on the debris collected.

There were over 80 volunteers from LGU Maitum, Kabalikat Civicom-499 Chapter, Brgy. Mabay Officials, Maitum PNP, and Maitum Coastguards scattered along the 1 kilometer stretch of Brgy. Mabay coastline with the common goal of collecting trash to keep the coastline clean. Other coastal barangays of Maitum headed by their barangay councils also conducted cleanup drives in line with the said activity.
The activity will aid in stirring environmental consciousness and awareness among the people about preserving and protecting the world’s oceans and waterways.
